"The idea for a breast cancer charity board came to me when I spotted a plain pink surfboard in the sea last summer. Since my sister got breast cancer in 1997, aged 41, I think of her and breast cancer ribbons almost every time I see pink.
We had both learnt to surf on wooden boards in North Cornwall in the mid 1960s when I was about six and my sister was a few years older. We spent hours in the sea without wetsuits but didn’t get cold if we raced back into the surf to catch more waves.
Sadly Jane died before I got my first pink surfboard, but it struck me that selling ribbon surf boards would be a special way to remember Jane and the sisterly fun we had surfing together - and also a much healthier way to support Breast Cancer Research than having cookie and cake sale events!
Sincere thanks to the local Cancer Research team who helped me to turn a very personal fund raising idea into a reality"
